  • Norwich Hope & Compassion Group, Thursday February 21, 2019, 6:00pm, Rose City Senior Center, 8 Mahan Drive
    • Norwich Hope & Compassion is a peer led gathering of people whose lives have been impacted by substance use disorder. We all have different journeys, but we benefit from sharing our experiences, wisdom, strength, resources and most of all HOPE! This group is supported by Norwich Unhooked, Community Speaks Out and Matt's Mission. It will be held monthly on an ongoing basis.   • Earth Day Fair, Thursday April 4, 2019, 5:30pm, Rose City Senior Center8 Mahan Drive 
    • This will be a free family fun event with games, crafts, healthy food options and resources tables. Stay tuned for more information
  • Take The First Step, Annual Suicide Prevention Walk, Saturday April 27, 2019, 9am-12pm, Fontaine Field, Norwich
    • This is a free family event for those who have lost loved ones, struggle with mental illness themselves, or anyone who wants to support and empower others! Ongoing Trainings/Programming

  • QPR ("Question, Persuade, Refer") Suicide Prevention Training This training is available for schools, youth groups and community groups. Contact Angelo @ 860-823-3782 acallis@cityofnorwich.org
  • Substance Abuse Prevention & Education This 7 week course covers basic information on most drugs, including alcohol, marijuana, opioids, inhalants & vaping. Participants will receive accurate information about the affects of drug use on the body, particularly the brain, and on their personal development and choices. This class is appropriate for most middle school & high school youth. Parents or school personnel can make referrals for this program to Christine Goracy @ 860-823-3782 ext. 3481

Opportunities

  • Voices for Middle School Students This 10 week group is for students enrolled in Aspire at Teachers' Memorial Global Studies Magnet Middle School and is held on Thursdays during Aspire hours at Norwich Youth & Family Services (75 Mohegan Road) Transportation is provided by Norwich Public Schools. Participants in this group will have the opportunity to talk about relationships, body image, self-esteem, future goals and more in safe place. The group is facilitated by our Partnerships for Success Peer Advocate and an MSW intern. It begins meeting January 24, 2019.   • Voices for High School This 6 week group is for high school students who identify as female. It is held on Fridays from 2:30pm-4:00pm at Norwich Youth & Family Services (75 Mohegan Road).  Participants in this group will have the opportunity to talk about relationships, body image, self-esteem, future goals and more in safe place.   • The Council for Middle School Students This 10 week group is for students enrolled in Aspire at Kelly STEAM Magnet Middle School and is held on Wednesdays during Aspire hours at Norwich Youth & Family Services (75 Mohegan Road) Transportation is provided by Norwich Public Schools. Participants in this group will have the opportunity to talk about cultural influences, bullying, relationships, self-confidence, future goals and more in safe place.
